about

This is a song about mental health, about feeling lost, numb and stuck. These past few years, particularly the ungoing pandemic, have left me feeling more isolated than I've ever been. Being high risk in a world where nobody cares anymore has been difficult to deal with.

Mental health in itself and depression can feel like being lost in a forest sometimes. I like the imagery here because, like in fairytales, forests can be mysterious and scary but they can be a place where you change and discover new things about yourself. However, that transformative journey has a start and it has to have an end, eventually you have to figure out a way to get out of the forest.

lyrics

Take me to the boat
Far away from the trees
Love stuck in my throat
Will I ever be free ?

Take me out to sea,
I want to watch the stars collide
I’ve been lost in here with
branches in my eyes.

I’ve got a forest head and a ghost heart
Put my worries to bed
Give me a new start

My dreams are now the only things i can hold
I bought rose coloured glasses but
all I can see is smoke

My hands are now,
the only thing i can feel.
Take them in yours
Tell me, am I still real ?
(Am I still real ?)

I’ve got a forest head and a ghost heart
Put my worries to bed
Give me a new start
